Diabetes Support Program

Ajax Harwood Clinic helps patients living with type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes, and related metabolic conditions take control of their blood sugar through education, nutrition, and sustainable lifestyle change. Our approach pairs practical medical guidance with group support—because managing diabetes is about daily habits, not just prescriptions.

Who This Program Serves

Dr. Carlos Yu’s practice gives priority to new patients living with diabetes, pre-diabetes, and mental-health challenges—conditions that are often at the root of many other health issues. Addressing them early and holistically helps prevent complications before they arise.

Eating Well & Health Wellness Group

Led by Dr. Maria, this 6-week group is built for individuals living with diabetes, obesity, or high cholesterol. It focuses on understanding how your body processes carbohydrates and how to match what you eat with how you move—the foundation of steady blood-sugar control.

Patients of Dr. Maria can ask about joining at their next appointment. See all our group programs for related options.

Understanding Blood Sugar & Carbohydrates

Managing type 2 diabetes (or pre-diabetes) isn’t only about cutting sugar—it’s about understanding how your body uses carbohydrates and balancing intake against activity. Think of your body like a car: fuel (carbohydrates) goes in when you eat, and energy (movement) burns that fuel through the day. When you take in more fuel than you burn, blood sugar rises; balancing carbohydrates with activity keeps it steady.

Regular check-ins—every few months—help you track progress, adjust your plan, and stay ahead of complications.
