OHIP insures the medical care you receive here. A few services are not insured by OHIP at all, and are billed to the patient. You will always be told the cost before any work is done — if you are ever unsure, ask us first.
Our fees fall into three groups, set three different ways.
1. Fees set by the Ontario Medical Association
These follow the OMA’s province-wide fee guide, by length and complexity. We do not set them, and we will quote you before starting.
- Notes and forms for a third party — employers, schools, insurers, agencies
- Transfer of your medical record to another physician or office
- Copies of your own record — printed or emailed to you
Your record is yours. Ask for anything in your file and we will provide it; it is producing the copies that is uninsured, not your right to have them.
2. Fees set by our clinic policy
These are our own, and are subject to change — this page is where the current amounts live.
| Service | Note |
|---|---|
| Missed appointment | Varies with the appointment booked. A missed counselling or long appointment costs the clinic more than a missed routine visit, and the fee reflects that. |
| Cancelling with less than 24 hours’ notice | Same basis — under a day we usually cannot offer the time to another patient. |
| Repeat referral needed because a specialist appointment was missed | The original referral was used up by an appointment that did not happen. |
| More than one referral for the same problem | Each additional referral is separate uninsured work. |
| Replacing a lost prescription | Photograph your prescriptions — it costs nothing and saves this fee. |
| Replacing lost lab or imaging requisitions | Same. |
| Medication renewal by fax or phone, outside an appointment | Free at your appointment. Bring all your medication bottles and every renewal is written there at no cost. |
3. Services charged by time
Charged in time units under our office policy:
- Discussion or consultation about non-medical matters
- Care for patients not covered by OHIP
Most of these are avoidable
- Keep your appointments, or give us a full day’s notice.
- Bring your medication bottles to every visit — renewals there are free.
- Photograph prescriptions and requisitions when you get them.
- Book your results appointment before you leave; reviewing results at a visit is insured and costs you nothing.
Questions about a fee before you are charged? Ask the front desk — that conversation is always free.
